FAREWELL LAMP

The project takes its inspiration from the metalworking workshops of Istanbul. It began with an encounter and conversation with a metalsmith who had recently closed his atelier after decades of practice. Our conversation about the struggles faced by independent artisans in Istanbul repeatedly returned to the deep sense of fulfilment found in craftsmanship: value of making by hand and the meaning embedded in years of accumulated knowledge.

Following this encounter, I shared the conversation with a local electrician while discussing an ongoing practice with aluminium. The electrician responded by presenting a collection of discarded aluminium and copper components from his shop. These overlooked remnants became the starting point for the lamp.

By repurposing materials that had reached the end of their intended use, Farewell Lamp reflects on the resilience of craftsmanship and its enduring value.

Materials: Used reducers, a deformed flange cover, and an old radiator pipe.
